WHAT’S NEW WITH YOU? ASK A BETTER QUESTION
WHAT’S NEW WITH YOU? ASK A BETTER QUESTION — Not in your
business, not in your bank account, but in you. We often ask, “Hey, what’s
new?” and automatically talk about new projects, businesses, properties,
investments, cars, achievements and turnover, but Dr. Abhishek Gilara asks a
deeper question: WHAT’S NEW IN YOU? At a lunch, when a friend responded
to “What’s new?” by describing his upcoming project, yet later said he had
no time for regular exercise while planning a party, it revealed a larger truth:
perhaps we do not always suffer from a shortage of time, but from a confusion
of priorities, and perhaps we have made our definition of growth far too
narrow. Your company grew—did you? Your income increased—did your
knowledge? Your house became bigger—did your peace? Your business
became stronger—did your body?
Your network expanded—did your wisdom? You upgraded your phone, software, office and machinery—when did you last
upgrade yourself? This is not a book against ambition, wealth or business growth; it is an invitation to pursue whole-person
growth—physical, intellectual, emotional, relational, professional and spiritual—because the owner is also a product, and
perhaps the most important project you will ever build is the person doing all the building. Through everyday observations,
business lessons, health, discipline, learning, mentorship, books, relationships and spirituality, Dr. Gilara proposes a new
personal growth scorecard: What did I learn? What did I unlearn? How did my body improve? Which habit did I build or
remove? Who did I learn from? Did my relationships become stronger? Did my peace and gratitude grow? Did my ego reduce?
Did my relationship with God deepen? Did I become more useful? And finally, AM I CLOSER TO THE PERSON I WANT
TO BECOME? Because one day the new project will become old, the new car and house will become old, today’s record
turnover will become an old number, and today’s achievement will become yesterday’s news; but if every experience has made
you wiser, healthier, stronger, calmer, more disciplined, more grateful and more conscious, then something truly new has
happened. So next time you meet someone, do not ask only, “WHAT’S NEW?” Ask the better question: “WHAT’S NEW IN
YOU?” Because the greatest growth story of your life should not only be the story of what you built, but also the story of WHO
YOU BECAME WHILE BUILDING IT.
