MASTI I WISH FOR A LOT OF IT, BUT RARELY FIND THE TIME FOR IT — PART 5 You Don’t Find Time for What You Want. You Find Time for What You Enjoy. A casual conversation over lunch gave Dr. Abhishek Gilara an uncomfortable but powerful question. A friend wanted to exercise. He wanted to prepare for another marathon. Yet travelling was hampering his training. Minutes later, the same friend became visibly excited while planning an upcoming club retreat—discussing it enthusiastically and persuading another friend to join. Nothing had changed in those few minutes. Not his work. Not his travel. Not his responsibilities. Not the number of hours in his day. Only the source of his masti had changed. And that observation raises a question for all of us: Do we really not have time—or do we simply find more pleasure somewhere else? We say we want fitness, learning, family time, discipline, spiritual growth and success. Yet our time often travels elsewhere. Why? Because wanting an outcome is not the same as enjoying the actions required to create it. MASTI — PART 5 explores a different approach to discipline. Instead of spending your entire life fighting pleasure, can you train your pleasures? Can exercise become enjoyable? Can learning become exciting? Can improvement become addictive in a healthy way? Can responsibility become satisfying? Can discipline itself become a source of masti? And can the people, places and things around you help make that transformation possible? The message is simple: What gives you masti repeatedly receives your time. What receives your time repeatedly becomes your habit. What becomes your habit eventually shapes your life. So perhaps the answer is not to remove masti from life. Perhaps the answer is to become wiser about where you find it. Don’t only ask, “What should I do?” Ask, “How can I learn to enjoy doing what is good for me?” Because when your masti and your mission begin travelling in the same direction, you no longer have to choose between enjoying today and building tomorrow. You begin doing both.
