DON’T BECOME THE PERSON YOU DISLIKE
DON’T BECOME THE PERSON YOU DISLIKE Their Wrong Is Their Karma. Your Response Is Yours. Someone ignores you. So you decide to ignore them. Someone speaks rudely to you. So you speak rudely back. Someone makes you wait. So next time, you make them wait. Someone hurts you, and you tell yourself: “I will teach them a lesson.” But there is a hidden danger in this thinking. When you retaliate by copying someone’s wrong behaviour, you may slowly become the very person you dislike. What begins as “I will do it only to him” can become a repeated behaviour. And repeated behaviour can eventually influence the person you are becoming. This book presents another way. Don’t copy people’s weaknesses. Use them as mirrors. When someone’s arrogance irritates you, check your humility. When someone’s dishonesty troubles you, strengthen your honesty. When someone’s irresponsibility frustrates you, examine your own responsibility. When someone doesn’t respect your time, become even more conscious of respecting the time of others. Let the bad behaviour you encounter make your standards higher, not lower. Because you cannot control another person’s karma. You can only control yours. You can protect yourself without becoming cruel. You can set boundaries without hatred. You can be firm without becoming disrespectful. You can respond to wrong without becoming wrong. And sometimes the greatest lesson you can teach someone is simply this: They could not change who you are. Their behaviour remained theirs. Your character remained yours. Don’t become the person you dislike. Let them show you what not to become.
