Last Friday, I found myself walking through DLF Emporio in Delhi—India’s most prestigious luxury mall. Home to legendary international brands and opulent showrooms, it was the kind of place where excellence in quality, ambience, and design is a given.
But what struck me wasn’t the grandeur. It was the silence.
Despite it being Friday afternoon—the beginning of a high-footfall weekend—the entire mall was deserted. Not a single customer browsing. Not one walking the floors. The brands were iconic, the products world-class—yet they were simply... unseen.
A few hours later, I reached Delhi's domestic airport.
And the contrast couldn’t have been sharper.
Every shop was alive. Every store had buyers. People were walking in, picking up items they didn’t come looking for—and happily purchasing.
Even I browsed several stores multiple times. Not because I needed anything urgently—but because the shops were visible, present right in front of me, while I waited for my flight.
Welcome to the Era of Passive Purchase
That day taught me something deeper than any business book could:

People don’t just buy what they need—they buy what they see.
In this era of digital saturation, no one’s actively chasing products anymore. Products must chase people. They must show up where attention already lives—whether that’s:
An airport lounge
An Instagram feed
A YouTube ad
Or the screen we unconsciously scroll every few minutes
Your potential customer is not planning to visit your store—but if your product enters their view while they’re doing something else, you suddenly become relevant. You become desirable.
Visibility has become the bridge between attention and action.
