WHAT'S YOUR REAL AGE?

by Dr Abhishek Gilara

When someone asks, “What’s your age?”, we quickly reply with numbers—20, 30, 45, 60. But pause for a moment: is that your real age? Not necessarily.

Just like solving 2×2 requires knowing the multiplication table to get “4” as the right answer, calculating your true age also needs the right formula—not based on years lived, but on habits lived.

Let’s redefine age.

Human life is usually divided into five phases:

1. Childhood – Curiosity, playfulness, dependency.

2. Teenage – Rebellion, excitement, risk-taking.

3. Adulthood – Responsibility, ambition, structure.

4. Mid-age – Reflection, recalibration, mentoring.

5. Old age – Wisdom, stillness, detachment.

Now ask yourself: What habits define me?

Are you in your 50s but still excited to learn new skills, start fresh, dance to music, or explore? That’s youth.

Are you in your 30s but constantly complaining, resisting change, or living in fear? That’s old age.

Your real age is not your birth year. It’s your behaviour year.

So how do we stay young?

By choosing the habits of learning, laughing, growing, and sharing.

By surrounding ourselves with the energy we want to reflect. Yes, talking to people of your own mindset – age matters too. Someone mentally 25 will feel out of place around someone mentally 70.

This realisation isn’t to judge—but to awaken.

You’re never too old to be young again. And never too young to carry the wisdom of the old.

Live by habits that match the age you aspire to be—not the one written on paper. That’s the secret to staying forever youthful in soul and ageless in impact.

So, what’s your real age? Look at your habits… And you’ll know.
