THE WAR WITHIN BUSINESS AND THE ECONOMY

by Dr. Abhishek Gilara

Yesterday, I came across a statement by our Home Minister that mock drills would be conducted across parts of the country on March 7th—preparations to simulate emergency responses in case of war. For a moment, the gravity of that possibility hit me hard. The mere thought of war—its ripple effect on our economy, industries, and everyday lives—sent a chill through my spine.

But as the initial shock faded, my mind shifted to something deeper. What is war, really? Is it only fought on borders?

The truth is, every entrepreneur, every business owner, and every working professional is already at war—every single day.

We battle soaring medical costs, unpredictable policy shifts, trade restrictions, internal disruptions, economic volatility, and cutthroat competition. These aren’t anomalies. They are part of the battlefield we call business. Yet we don’t panic. Why? Because we’ve learnt to meet adversity with strategy, vision, and grit.

So why let fear overpower us now?

In that moment, I realised: **Our economy needs warriors too—**not just in camouflage on the frontlines, but in boardrooms, shop floors, showrooms, and factories.

That shift—from fear to purpose—was powerful. I stopped worrying and started planning. What decisions must I make? What reserves should I build? What structures must I strengthen so my business doesn’t just survive but thrives—even in the face of external chaos?

Because that is our duty. Not just as business leaders, but as citizens. Not just to protect our profits, but to protect the spirit of our economy.

Just as our soldiers guard our borders with courage and discipline, we must safeguard our economy with resilience, adaptability, and foresight.

In doing so, we ensure that:

  • Hope doesn’t halt.

  • Jobs don’t disappear.

  • Growth doesn’t pause.

Even in turbulent times.

Let us not be paralysed by the thought of war. Let us prepare. Let us persevere. And above all, let us prosper—together.

For our country. For our people’s sake. For our shared future.
