PEACOCKS IN THE GARDEN – A Client-Centric Business Strategy

We’ve all heard the saying: “To catch a cat, keep its food.” But recently, I witnessed this proverb transform into a powerful business strategy—right in my own backyard.
A Simple Dream, A Powerful Lesson
Six months ago, I had a quiet thought:“Wouldn’t it be beautiful to see peacocks in our garden?”
Peacocks are known to live in the nearby forest reserve, but they never visited our property. Instead of hoping, I decided to act. I researched their preferences and began placing food they love, along with fresh water, in a calm corner of the garden.
To ensure consistency, I assigned this task to my watchman and, through my secretary, created a WhatsApp group where he had to post daily photos of the setup—every single day. Rain or shine, holidays or not, the routine continued… for five whole months.
And then—like magic—in the sixth month, they came. First one peacock. Then two. And now, they visit regularly.
But this wasn’t magic. This was strategy.

The Business Insight: Peacocks as Clients
This experience taught me something profound: the peacocks are like our ideal clients.
They don’t respond to loud calls, aggressive marketing, or desperate offers. They come because their needs are quietly met—consistently, reliably, and in an inviting environment.
Here’s what the peacock strategy looks like in business terms:
Know What Your Client Truly Wants Not what you want to sell—what they truly value and seek.
Deliver That Without Fail Build consistency. Trust isn’t built in a day. It’s built daily.
Create an Experience that Feels Clean and Intentional Just like a serene garden, your brand space must feel inviting—whether it’s a showroom, website, or store.
Assign Clear Responsibility Like the watchman had a duty and accountability, your team should own and report on client experience without compromise.
Have Patience
Building relationships takes time. Just like the peacock, clients may observe from afar before stepping in. Keep showing up.
A Timeless Strategy: Attract, Don’t Chase
This method may not offer overnight results—but when it works, it builds loyalty beyond marketing. No shouting. No chasing. Just quiet excellence and thoughtful presence.
Let’s break down the metaphor:
Story Element | Business Parallel |
The Peacock | Your ideal client |
The Food & Water | Your core product/service |
The Garden | Your business environment (store/site) |
The Watchman | Your delivery team or operations |
WhatsApp Group | Your system of accountability and reporting |
Final Thought: Who Is the Peacock in Your Industry?
Every industry has its “peacock”—a client who doesn’t respond to gimmicks, but values quality, consistency, and care. If your business can become the garden that such clients love to visit, your growth won’t depend on promotions.
It will be rooted in something stronger—trust.
So next time you think of sales strategy, ask yourself not “How do I sell?”Ask instead: “What will attract my peacock?”
Because the rarest clients don’t come with noise. They come with grace—and stay for substance.
